Magicopolis: you're never too old for a little magic

Jun 22, 2010

No matter what age you are, magicians tend to stir a curiosity and wonder reminiscent of childhood. Magicopolis is the cure for your weekend, with evening shows every Friday and Saturday and matinee shows every Saturday and Sunday. Break out of your stiff working collar and take a seat in this truly spectacular theatre of heart-filled fun and quality entertainment. Before the show purchase beer or wine at the magic bar and witness magic tricks up close. Magic is easily more fun with a glass of wine, right?

Don’t expect to find the tired pull-a-bunny-from-a-hat or the forgettable string of handkerchiefs here. Magocopilis brings its audience “Escape Reality”, a mix of illusion and sketch comedy that elicits laughter, excitement and awe. Without giving away too many details, expect disappearing humans, mind-reading abilities, doom-inspiring escape stunts and floating ladies. There’s audience participation, so loosen up and get ready for the show. During intermission and after the show you can chat with the magicians, but don’t think they’ll spoil the secrets to their illusions.

Founded by the husband and wife duo Steve Spill and Bozena Wrobel, Magicopolis has been entertainment Santa Monica tourists and residents since its opening in 1998. Steve’s father Sandy Spillman was the manager at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, and thus Steve was able to learn magic and sleight-of-hand skills from practicing, successful magicians. Steve met Bozena Wrobel and fell in love, and together they recognized their dream and made it a reality, and Magicopolis was born. Even A-list stars have visited and enjoyed Magicopolis, including Jack Black, Marcia Cross, Dick Clark, Chris Rock, John C. Reilly and Ray Liotta.

Magicopolis is, at the risk of sounding corny, a magical place to hold a child’s birthday party. Parties include balloons, pizza, juice, party favors, cake, paper goods, goody bags full of tricks, magic class, a grand illusion and a magic show. With a magic show and a fun location and staff, your child will have a memorable and whimsical party at Magicopolis.

Hello Metro Tip: If you’ve got a large group to entertain, take advantage of the group discounts at Magicopolis. And poof!, keep some money in your pocket.
