Maha Yoga: Upbeat yoga in Brentwood

Jul 25, 2010

Steve Ross, author of Happy Yoga: 7 Reasons Why There’s Nothing to Worry About, founded Brentwood’s Maha Yoga. He keeps a smile on his face, and it translates through his yoga practice and his studio. The word “maha” means “supreme” or “great”, which is the reaction the founder and instructors hope to give you after a Maha Yoga experience.

Customers rave that Steve’s positive energy is unparalleled, and practicing yoga with him is indeed a happy and invigorating outlet. The Maha Yoga class schedule features about seven classes daily, with classes for beginners and higher levels clearly marked. Classes generally groove to an upbeat tempo, with energizing music and lots of positivity.

This is not a yoga studio for those who like to hear only the sounds of crickets during their practice. Not only can you catch your fill of flow yoga and ashtanga here, but the studio also offers some meditation classes to help you train and strengthen your mind. Single classes cost $18, and students with valid school ID’s receive a $3 discount.

Maha Yoga also offers packages for inspired yogis, and the more classes you buy the larger discount you receive. Yogis can practice unlimited yoga for $190, and you may purchase ten classes for $145. Please double check prices to ensure that nothing has changed. Gift certificates are available as well.

The staff at Maha Yoga has an extensive collective training history, so yogis from beginner to advanced can be sure to get an accurate and challenging workout. The Maha website stays up-to-date with special events and workshops; from Yin Yoga and Chanting to Life Coaching and Holotropic Breaking with Steve Ross, there’s always something new here to try. In the Maha Yoga store, customers may purchase t-shirts and tanks with clever phrases like “Chant your Brains Out with Steve Ross” and “Spiritual Gangsta”, as well as chant-filled tunes for your stretching pleasure.

As Steve Ross says, “Without love, without humor, yoga is just a lot of hard work.”

HelloMetro Tip: If you’re lighter on cash, catch the “all levels” $10 classes on Monday and Wednesday at 12:45 p.m. Or, if you’re really strapped for cash, opt for lululemon Brentwood’s free Sunday morning classes starting at 9:30 a.m.
