In 1998, three college friends started The Sofa Company to finally make the processing of purchasing a sofa fun, fast and simple. Along with the motto "you design it, we build it" came the promise to continue to innovate the selections available and make the process of buying a sofa enjoyable for residents throughout Los Angeles. With showrooms in Pasadena and Santa Monica, and a factory clearance center in Commerce, we now can say quite confidently that we have the largest selection of styles, sizes, fabrics, legs, sofabeds in the city. 1-2-3 Process--In our new, easy 1-2-3 process, you first style it, then cover it and then accessorize it. All made in California. As you see throughout our site, we are quite proud of the fact that we produce our sofa line in the good ole USA and more specifically, Los Angeles, CA.

Great Experience!

We had very specific requirements for a couch that other stores either couldn't accomodate or added so many extra charges that it wasn't worth it. At the Sofa Company, we were able to get a couch that we could specify to our exact requirements -- greater height, wider, longer and firmer. The extra cost was only several hundred dollars more as opposed to over a thousand dollars more at two other stores we visited. Our salesperson, Kara, was so knowledgeable and patient with us and also helped us find the perfect fabric. All in all, a great experience. We're really looking forward to receiving our couch and using it for many years.

Pros: Great selections, lots of fabrics; knowledge salesperson

Cons: Website doesn't offer the options that are avilable in store

Very frustrating experience!

While the sofa I had made by the Sofa Company is nice, my experience with them was frustrating and every time I see the couch I am reminded of what a difficult and annoying process it was. My couch arrived over two weeks late and had the wrong legs attached to it. I am extremely busy, as most people are, so having to deal with this situation is the last thing I have time for, and they did not make it easy. I had to call 6 times before someone finally returned my call and could give me an update on my couch. I also had several emails go unanswered and felt neglected as a customer. I also feel that I had to correct their mistakes. I had to explain to them why it was an issue to have the couch delayed and had to suggest to them that they waive the delivery charge. I am also now responsible for taking the legs off of my couch, going to the store to exchange for the correct ones, and attaching the right legs myself. Their communication and customer service skills are poor to say the least and I would recommend going elsewhere for your couch.

Pros:

Cons: poor customer service, lack of communication

We hear the phrase "custom sofa" and automatically think expensive...not the case here. After checking out the website (which is confusing as heck), my wife and I went into the Santa Monica store, where the experience was much easier. We walked in thinking we wanted one style sofa and fabric, and left purchasing something completely different. The process of picking out the fabric and the extras was simple, once the sales associate laid everything out for us. The price wound up being comparable to, if not less expensive than what we'd typical pay for a sofa at Z Gallerie or Pottery Barn. The only problem (if you'd consider this a problem)...there are so many fabric choices to choose from that it can become overwhelming - at one point, my eyes began to glaze over. Overall, my wife and I are extremely pleased by the product (which is yet to be delivered) and by the sales people, who know their product. My wife wants to return when its time to redecorate the livingroom.

Pros: In store process is easy

Cons: can be overwhelming
