Soto Street Elementary School Reviews
Quality Score: 1 Post Date:2008-05-21
“This school, although it looks nice, has a long way to go in addressing fairness, equity, and balance from teachers down to students. This school suffers from low expectations for teachers, students, and staff.” This review was posted by a teacher.

“I'm an ex-staff and very concern with some staff at this school. They are rude to the childern and don't know how to talk to them. They are children not adults. So parents talk to your children and if possible try to participate in the school.” This review was posted by a parent.

“I'm the proud parent of a second grade child at Soto Street Elementary. Since Kindergarten my child has attended this school and the results have been astonishingly positive. The teachers have all been motivated, friendly and respectful. However; the play yard staff needs much improvement. They aren't always keeping a close eye on the children and that is my only concern.” This review was posted by a parent.

“Parents participation is very low and Ms. Reyes, the principal is not very accessible to parents. When parents start participating at Soto, most of the time they are consider as problematic parents. Stop by the school now and talked to some of the parents.” This review was posted by a parent.

“I'm not a parent, but an ex-employee of this school. I was a teacher's aide, morning yard security supervisor, physical education instructor and taught a couple of credentialed teacher-supervised after school tutoring programs. I was employed there from 1996 to 2000, until I switched to nearby City Terrace Elementary in 2001, under the same job classification. Ever since the school got it's current principle, Ms. Elva Reyes in 2000, it's quality has significantly increased. There is smarter more efficient use of staff devleopment days and meetings. Overall test scores have risen and there is better distribustion of funds. The implementation of reading programs have improven literacy and their is now more emphasis on better training of instructors and paraprofessionals. Security has stepped up significantly and saftey risen. The parent participation level there is high and is key for both student body and staff group morale.” This review was posted by a staff.
